Charleston fired coach Doug Wojcik earlier this month amid allegations of physical and verbal abuse towards players.

Johnson, who played for Charleston from 1992-97, is reportedly the front-runner for the job. He averaged 5.6 points and 2.9 assists in the NBA before retiring in 2010.

Several of the candidates have head coaching experience. Lutz coached Charlotte for 12 seasons and is the school's all-time winningest coach at 218-157.
