Nebraska defensive tackle Aaron Curry will transfer

Nebraska defensive tackle Aaron Curry will transfer, his father Aaron Curry Sr. told SoonerScoop.com.

The junior started all of the Cornhuskers Big Ten games last season and played in the other five games, totaling 24 tackles, three tackles for loss and two sacks. He was also one of five Nebraska players to appear in game action as a true freshman in 2012.

According to HuskerOnline.com, while Curry emerged as a starter in 2013, he has been passed on the depth chart during training camp by sophomores Vincent Valentine and Maliek Collins, leading to his decision to transfer.

It was originally reported that Curry would go to Oklahoma, where Curry Sr. played basketball from 1979-80, but the team informed the Currys on Monday that it didn't have a scholarship for the player. Curry Sr. told SoonersIllustrated.com his son wants to play somewhere closer to his hometown of Keller, Texas, and wants to remain on scholarship.

Curry will have to sit out the 2014 season per NCAA transfer rules. He'll have two years of eligibility remaining beginning in 2015.

Nebraska opens the 2014 season Aug. 30 against Florida Atlantic.
