Nebraska hires ex-March Madness star Ali Farokhmanesh as assistant

The Nebraska men's basketball team has hired former Northern Iowa guard Ali Farokhmanesh as a graduate assistant, coach Tim Miles announced.

Farokhmanesh, 26, led Northern Iowa to the Sweet 16 in 2010 as a No. 9 seed. They defeated No. 8 seed UNLV in the second round and knocked off No. 1 seed Kansas, featuring future NBA players, Marcus and Markieff Morris, Xavier Henry, and Cole Aldrich, in the Round of 32.

Farokhmanesh averaged 14 points during three tournament games in 2010. During the two upset victories, he made nine three-pointers. He played professionally overseas after graduating from Northern Iowa in 2010.

Nebraska finished last season 19-13 and lost to Baylor in the second round of the NCAA tournament.
