Clemson junior offensive tackle Shaq Anthony will transfer, the school announced on Thursday.

Anthony, who appeared in 17 games and started five over the last two seasons after redshirting in 2011, was listed as a backup at right tackle on the Tigers' preseason depth chart.

The Piedmont, S.C., native was a three-star recruit who also received scholarship offers from Georgia and South Carolina, according to the recruiting website Rivals.com.

“I have enjoyed my time at Clemson and appreciate the opportunity I’ve had,” Anthony said. “This is an outstanding program, but I wish to make a clean start at a program where I can hopefully be a starter. I want to thank all the Clemson coaches, my teammates and the Clemson family for their support. I will always be a Tiger.”

“I appreciate the hard work Shaq has put into this program,” Swinney said. “Sometimes a player needs a change. I support his decision and will help him any way I can. I wish him nothing but the best.”
