Fresno State WR Dillon Root suspended for season opener

Fresno State receiver and kick returner Dillon Root has been suspended for the team's Aug. 30 season opener against USC for violating athletic department policy, according to reports.

Root switched to receiver in the spring after playing defensive back last season. He also averaged 21.5 yards on a team-high 28 kick returns.

Root was suspended for two games in 2013.

The Bulldogs, which went 11-2 last season, were picked to win the Mountain West's West division in a preseason media poll.
