Bryant beats Stony Brook 13-7

STONY BROOK, N.Y. (AP) - Dalton Easton threw a 37-yard touchdown pass to Chad Ward midway through the third quarter, and Bryant's defense held off Stony Brook in a 13-7 victory Thursday night in the opener for both teams.

Marquise Watson and Jeff Covitz each had 10 tackles to help the Bulldogs shut down Stony Brook's running game. Bryant had five sacks and held the Seawolves to 85 yards of net rushing.

After Tom Alberti gave Bryant a 6-0 lead on field goals of 32 and 27 yards, Syracuse transfer John Kinder countered for Stony Brook with a 61-yard scoring strike to Adrian Coxson in the second quarter. Kinder was 7 of 18 for 101 yards and two interceptions.

Easton's winning pass to Ward capped an eight-play, 64-yard drive. Easton was 11 for 27 for 112 yards and an interception.

Stony Brook's Stacey Bedell ran for 116 yards on 27 carries.
