University of Miami athletic director Blake James said Al Golden is the "perfect person" to coach the team, the Sun-Sentinel reports.

Golden, who is starting his fourth season at Miami, has a 22-16 record with the Hurricanes, who have dealt with an NCAA investigation for much of his tenure. They lost their season-opener on Monday against Louisville 31-16.

James gave Golden a vote of confidence for how he is building the program.

“I think sometimes people take for granted that just by snapping your fingers it’s going to happen,” James said Wednesday night. “That’s not how it works. You have to build a solid foundation and Al is building a solid foundation. We are going to be a better team at the end of this year than we were at the start of this year. We’re going to be a better team at the end of this year than we were last year and we’re going to continue to get better each year.”

Miami opened last season 7-0 and peaked at No. 7 on the AP rankings. After the hot start last season, the team has lost five of its last seven games.
