AP source: LSU WR in car accident, status unclear

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) LSU leading receiver Travin Dural ''will play'' against Louisiana-Monroe on Saturday night despite injuries from a car accident last weekend, Les Miles said after practice on Wednesday evening.

''He will be fine,'' Miles said. ''He practiced today with a helmet. He will play in this game.''

Dural did not participate fully in the first couple practices of the week because of what the coach called a ''soft tissue injury'' to the receiver's forehead which required stitches.

Dural, who has six catches for 291 yards and two touchdowns, was trying to help a friend find misplaced keys when the accident happened, Miles said.

Baton Rouge police have said the accident occurred at 3 a.m. Sunday when Dural made a left turn into the path of a sports utility vehicle.

Police have said there was no indication Dural, a 20-year-old redshirt sophomore, was impaired at the time of the accident near LSU's campus.

Authorities noted moderate injuries to Dural but reported that he was not transported from the scene by paramedics.

Practice is closed to media during the regular season, and Dural has not met with reporters since immediately after 10th-ranked LSU's 56-0 victory Saturday night against Sam Houston State.

Dural caught three touchdown passes in the game, including one which went for 94 yards, setting an LSU record for longest passing play and tying the school record for longest play from scrimmage.

No other LSU receiver's production approaches that of Dural. Second in that category is redshirt freshman receiver John Diarse receiver with four catches for 77 yards and a touchdown.

Next on the Tigers' depth chart at receiver are freshmen Malachi Dupre and Trey Quinn.

Dupre made the first two catches of his career last Saturday, including a touchdown on an 8-yard fade from fellow freshman Brandon Harris. Quinn also had two receptions, giving him three catches for 37 yards through two games.
