This Saturday night will feature a Big Ten match-up between the Penn State Nittany Lions and the Rutgers Scarlet Knights in the first conference game of the year for both teams. Both teams come in with a 2-0 record on the season.

Saturday night will mark the first ever Big Ten conference game for Rutgers, who officially joined the conference on July 1. 

The game will be the first time since 1955 that Rutgers hosts Penn State on-campus.

Rutgers is looking to start the season 3-0 for the second time in three seasons and the fourth time since 2000.

Under the direction of new offensive coordinator Ralph Friedgen, quarterback Gary Nova leads the Big Ten in passing efficiency (208.9).

Running back Paul James leads the Big Ten and is No. 2 nationally in scoring with 36 points on the season.

Penn State currently has a seven game winning streak against Rutgers and owns a 22-2 series advantage​

This will be the first game in three years in which the Nittany Lions have the possibility of being bowl eligible later in the season, as their NCAA sanctions were lifted earlier in the week by the NCAA. 

Sophomore quarterback Christian Hackenberg has thrown for a Big Ten best 773 yards in his first two games, breaking the school record for passing yards in consecutive games.

Overall, the Penn State passing game ranks fifth in the FBS, averaging 386.5 yards through two games. 

Penn State head coach James Franklin worked with Friedgen at Maryland from 2001-04 and 2008-10.
