Northwestern vs. Penn State

The Penn State Nittany Lions will look to push their record to 5-0 this Saturday when they welcome the Northwestern Wildcats to Happy Valley. Penn State is coming off a win last week over UMass, 48-7, while Northwestern is coming off its first win of the season, a 24-7 victory over Western Illinois.

Penn State season recap

Week 4: Penn State 48, UMass 7

Penn State moved to 4-0 with a win over UMass. Sophomore quarterback Christian Hackenberg finished with 179 passing yards and no touchdowns. Akeel Lynch and Bill Belton were the team's top two rushers. Lynch finished with 81 yards and one touchdown, while Belton had 76 yards and two scores. 

Week 3: Penn State 13, Rutgers 10

Penn State came back on the road to defeat Rutgers for its first 3-0 start since 2009. Hackenberg had 309 passing yards and no touchdowns. Penn State had two receivers finish with over 100 yards: Geno Lewis had 109 yards on six catches, and DaeSean Hamilton finished with eight catches for 103 yards.

Week 2: Penn State 21, Akron 3

Penn State won its home opener against Akron. Hackenberg threw for 319 yards and three touchdowns. Junior tight end Jesse James had two touchdown catches. The Penn State defense held the Zips to 277 total yards, including 69 yards on 25 rush attempts.

Week 1: Penn State 26, UCF 24

The Nittany Lions opened the season at Croke Park in Dublin, Ireland. Sam Ficken kicked a 36-yard field goal as time expired to give Penn State the win. Hackenberg threw for a school record 454 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions. It was Penn State's first ever game outside the United States and the first international game played by a Big Ten team since Wisconsin played Michigan State in Tokyo in 1993.

Week 4: Northwestern 24, Western Illinois 7

Northwestern won its first game of the season last week over Western Illinois. Trevor Siemian completed 15 of 25 passes for 117 yards. Running back Justin Jackson had 92 rushing yards and a touchdown on 21 carries.

Week 2: Northwestern 15, Northern Illinois 23

Northwestern lost to Northern Illinois for the first time in school history. The Wildcats began the season 0-2 for the first time since 2003. Siemian had 268 passing yards with one touchdown and one interception. Jackson recorded 52 rushing yards. Wide receiver Kyle Prater caught seven passes for 87 yards and one touchdown. 

Week 1: Northwestern 24, California 31

Northwestern lost its season opener for the first time under Pat Fitzgerald. The loss also broke a streak of 16 consecutive non-conference wins at home. Siemian completed 23 of 44 passes (52.3 percent) for 229 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions. Cal jumped out to a 31-7 lead, but the Wildcats' second-half rally fell just short.
