• VOTE: Best college basketball teams not to win a title
Dawkins led the Cardinal to an upset of No. 2 seed Kansas in last season's NCAA Tournament. Stanford, who was a 10-seed, defeated No. 7 seed New Mexico and Kansas before falling to No. 11 seed Dayton in the Sweet Sixteen.
“Johnny Dawkins is a phenomenal educator and tireless worker,” said athletic director Bernard Muir. “Our on-court success last year combined with ongoing academic accomplishments and the overall development of our student-athletes illustrates Johnny’s ability to lead this program into the future.”

The Cardinal finished 23-13 last season. Dawkins, a former No. 10 NBA draft pick out of Duke, has a 117-87 record in six seasons as the coach of Stanford.
