Nick Saban has done a lot of winning while the coach at Alabama, and he's paid handsomely as a reward.

Saban's $6.9 million in base compensation this season, part of a new contract the 62-year-old agreed to this spring, leads all other coaches, as found in a new head coach salary database compiled by Newsday.

The newspaper created the database through Freedom of Information Act requests made to all 108 public universities in Division I-FBS. It includes all available information about each coach's contract, including 2014 base salary, contract length, conference championship bonuses and all other incentives. (Not all categories are complete for each coach.)
