Arkansas State beats Louisiana-Monroe 28-14

JONESBORO, Ark. (AP) Fredi Knighten ran for three touchdowns and passed for another, powering a big second half in Arkansas State's 28-14 victory over Louisiana-Monroe on Saturday night.

After a scoreless first half for both teams, Arkansas State (3-2, 1-0 Sun Belt) took a 21-7 lead early in the fourth quarter on Knighten's touchdown run - a 29-yard keeper. The Red Wolves stopped UL-Monroe (3-2, 2-1) on a four-and-out, and Knighten ran for his third touchdown two plays later.

Knighten finished 21 of 36 for 284 yards and Michael Gordon added 168 yards rushing.

Arkansas State broke the scoreless tie with 8:51 left in the third quarter on Knighten's 3-yard touchdown run. The Red Wolves scored again on their next possession, a 12-yard touchdown pass from Knighten to Tyler Trosin.

Pete Thomas cut ULM's deficit to 14-7 on a 59-yard touchdown pass to Ajalen Holley with 12:21 to play.
