Texas safety Jason Hall has a patellar tendon injury and will not play in Saturday's game against Iowa State, Kirk Bohls of the Austin American-Statesman reports.

Hall, a freshman, has played in the team's first six games, and has started in the past three games. He has 15 tackles, one sack and one pass defended this season.

Texas defensive coordinator Vance Bedford told reporters that senior Josh Turner and sophomore Adrian Colbert will split time at safety.

Texas ranks 17th in total defense, allowing just 316.2 yards per game. The Longhorns are tied for 21st in the nation in scoring defense as they are limiting opponents to 21.2 points per game.

The team's offense has struggled since a concussion ended quarterback David Ash's career in Week 1 against North Texas. Since scoring 38 points in their season opener, Texas has not scored more than 26 points in a game. They are averaging 19.7 points per game, which is tied with Tulane for 111th in the country.

In their first season under head coach Charlie Strong, the Longhorns have started the season 2-4 and are seventh in the Big 12. Texas hosts Iowa State on Saturday at 8 p.m. ET.
