Florida State has reinstated linebacker Matthew Thomas and he will be active for Saturday's game against Notre Dame, coach Jimbo Fisher announced Wednesday.

Thomas, a sophomore, missed the team's season opener against Oklahoma State with an ankle injury and was suspended indefinitely on Sept. 5 for an undisclosed violation of team rules. He was a five-star recruit in the class of 2013.

Fisher said Thomas will have to earn playing time:

"He is a great athlete, but we have some other great players. It is not like he walks in and changes everything," Fisher said last week. "He is a tremendous special teams guy because he has range and size, hard to block and can cover. He can rush off the edge and he can blitz the middle and he can play middle backer. He brings a lot. He has good ball skills."
