Clemson running back Adam Choice is out for the rest of the season after tearing his ACL in Saturday's game against Boston College, head coach Dabo Swinney said Monday.

Choice injured his knee on a carry in the first quarter against the Eagles and did not return.

The freshman was Clemson's leading rusher this season in a crowded backfield, recording 218 yards and one touchdown on 50 carries. C.J. Davidson and Wayne Gallman both have 198 rushing yards.

Choice was a touted recruit in the class of 2014, ranked by Rivals.com as the No. 109 player and No. 10 running back in the country. He gradually emerged as the Tigers' top option at the position after presumed starter Zac Brookswas lost for the season with a foot injury during fall camp. The team lost last season's top rusher Roderick McDowell to graduation.

Davidson, Gallman and D.J. Howard will likely see increased carries in Choice's absence.

Clemson is also currently without starting quarterback DeShaun Watson, who's likely out until mid-November with a broken finger.

The Tigers defeated Boston College 17-13 on Saturday and are now 5-2 this season. Clemson hosts Syracuse this Saturday.
