Quinnipiac's Giovanni McLean ruled ineligible amid juco fraud probe
Quinnipiac guard Gio McLean has been ruled ineligible amid an investigation into legitimacy of his junior college records. Lee Higgins of The Journal-News was the first report the news.
McLean, a transfer from Westchester Community College, is the fourth player to be ruled ineligible as a result of an investigation into their WCC transcripts. St. John's forward Keith Thomas was ruled ineligible last week. Damien Davis and Jamall Walker of Florida A&M were also ruled ineligible.

A Quinnipiac spokeswoman told Higgins that the NCAA has granted McLean a waiver that allows him to stay in school, but he cannot practice or play with the team.
The scandal at WCC was first revealed by The Journal-News, which quoted an anonymous Division I assistant coach as saying, "I knew the transcripts were fake the minute I saw them."

The coach said the transcripts showed unexpectedly high GPAs and heavier than usual course loads. Thomas' transcript showed he took 21 credits, according to The Journal-News, while the NCAA requires junior college transfers to average 12 credit-hours.
McLean and Thomas led WCC to the NJCAA National Tournament last season.
