84-year-old war veteran to serve as honorary coach for Wofford game
An 84-year-old Korean War veteran will serve as an honorary coach for a Wofford basketball game.
According to a story published on Wofford's athletics website, Jack Morris played basketball at Hiram (Ga.) High and but chose to work to support his family rather than play in college even though he received multiple college offers. Morris was then drafted into the Army and fought two years in the Korean War.
Terriers coach Mike Young informed Morris of the opportunity to sit on Wofford's bench for the team's Nov. 25 game against Ohio Valley, the story says.
"It's going to be an exciting day," Morris said. "I love the game. I lived to play basketball."
Young said he's looking forward to the game as much as Morris.
"It's going to be a special day for him and a special day for me," Young said. "We're going to have a good time with it."
