Pacific edges Western Illinois 73-71 in OT

MACOMB, Ill. (AP) David Taylor and T.J. Wallace scored 13 points apiece but it was an assist by Taylor that lifted University of the Pacific past Western Illinois 73-71 in overtime on Friday night, the season opener for both teams.

Taylor fed Gabriel Aguirre for a layup with less than two seconds left on overtime for the winner.

Aguirre finished with 10 points and eight rebounds, Wallace led the Tigers with 10 boards and four assists. The team hit 42 percent from the field and 71 percent from the line.

The Tigers had a 36-31 lead at the break and kept pace as the Leathernecks outscored them by the same margin in the second period to put the game into overtime.

Garret Covington scored 15 points with six rebounds for the Leathernecks. Jamie Batish added 10 points and five rebounds and Tate Stensgaard led the team with seven rebounds.
