Tennessee State pulls away, beats Reinhardt 97-66

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) Marcus Roper scored 23 points off the bench to lead six players in double figures as Tennessee State pulled away in the second half from NAIA Division-II Reinhardt for a 97-66 win in the season opener Friday night.

Perie Finley converted a layup to pull Reinhardt within a field goal, 47-45 at halftime.

But Tennessee State opened the second half on a 9-2 run and led 71-54 midway through the second half.

The Tigers shot 56 percent from the field, hitting 35 of 62, but were 8 of 13 from 3-point range and held a decisive 54-26 advantage on the boards.

Roper hit 7 of 12 from the field and was 4 of 7 from beyond the arc. Jay Harris added 18 points and Zachary Lee added 15 points and 10 rebounds.

AJ Jacklyn and Dylan Schulte added 12 points each to lead the Eagles.
