UMass over Siena 95-87

AMHERST, Mass. (AP) Trey Davis scored 28 points with four assists as Massachusetts beat Siena 95-87 in the season opener for both teams on Friday night.

Maxie Esho had 21 points and nine rebounds and Cady Lalanne scored 15 points and led the team with 10 rebounds. Derrick Gordon added 17 points for the Minutemen. The team shot 45.5 percent from the field and 75 percent from the line.

Siena led 41-36 at the break. But the Minutemen came back as the Saints sent them to the line 33 times overall where UMass was on fire with Davis hitting 12 of 17, Gordon hitting 11 of 12, and Esho sinking 5 of 8.

Rob Poole led the Saints with 19 points and nine rebounds. Ryan Oliver had 14 points and four rebounds and Patrick Cole added 12 points and three rebounds.
