Winthrop beats Pfeiffer 82-59

ROCK HILL, S.C. (AP) Keon Moore scored 25 points, including seven 3-pointers, to lead Winthrop to an 82-59 win over Pfeiffer in its season opener on Saturday.

Winthrop pulled away with a 19-5 run spanning both sides of the break and bookended by a layup and 3-pointer from Derrick Henry to make it 43-21 with 18:21 to go. The Eagles protected their margin and the lead down the stretch, outrebounding the Falcons 43 to 31.

Andre Smith had 12 points on 4-for-14 shooting, including the go-ahead trey early in the first half. Duby Okeke had 10 points and Jarad Scott had 10 rebounds for Winthrop.

Pfeiffer, a Division II team, was led by Mike Smith, who had 15 points. Josh Calhoun added 14 points and Keith Jumper had 11 and six rebounds.
