UMass survives Manhattan alley-oop buzzer-beater in 77-68 OT win

Manhattan sent Tuesday's game into overtime with a sensational buzzer-beating alley-oop, but UMass came away with a 77-68 win.

The Manhattan Jaspers provided one of the best plays of the early college basketball season with a buzzer-beating alley-oop to send Tuesday'sgame vs. UMass into overtime, but the Minutemen regrouped in the extra period for a 77-68 home win.

With UMass (3-0) leading 61-59 with two seconds remaining, Manhattan inbounded the ball under its own basket following a turnover. Rich Williams came off a back screen largely unguarded, and Emmy Andujar tossed up a lob that Williams slammed down with two-handed ease just before the buzzer sounded.

UMass regrouped before overtime started, and opened the extra period on a 16-7 run. Cady Lalanne led all players with 23 points, while Andujar led Manhattan with 21 points. Williams finished with eight points off the bench.

Free throws provided a sizable disparity between the two teams; UMass went 27-of-29 from the line while Manhattan (0-2) was 8-of-16.

The game started at 11 a.m. due to Tuesday's Tip-Off Marathon.
