S. Illinois runs away from Tennessee St. 84-67

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) Anthony Beane hit the first shot he took and finished with a career-best 32 points as Southern Illinois never trailed while defeating Tennessee State 84-67 Tuesday night.

Beane finished with 9 of 12 shooting, making all five of his 3-point attempts as the Salukis (1-1) raced away to lead by 20 at halftime. Beane scored 24 of his points in the first half on 8-for-8 shooting, nearly matching Tennessee State's 26 halftime points.

The Salukis snapped a seven-game losing skid in non-conference road games dating back to 2012.

Sean O'Brien added 15 points, Jordan Caroline and Jalen Pendleton 11 each for Southern Illinois, which shot nearly 47 percent and outrebounded the Tigers (1-1) 41-30.

Tennessee State's Jay Harris scored 11 of his 23 points in the first half, and hit four 3-pointers. Charles Tucker scored all 16 of his points in the second as Tennessee State came within 11.
