Alabama's Nick Saban is the highest-paid coach in college football, according to a database compiled by USA TODAY Sports.

Saban's total pay of $7,160,187 represents an approximately $1.6 million increase over last season and is more than $1.5 million more than the second-highest paid coach, Michigan State's Mark Dantonio ($5,636,145).

Dantonio signed a new contract with the Spartans in February that included a $2 million longevity bonus. The Spartans went 13-1 and won the Rose Bowl last season.

Saban agreed to a contract extension with the Crimson Tide in 2013 that included a pay raise. Alabama went 11-2 and finished in second place in the SEC West last season.

Oklahoma's Bob Stoops ($5,058,333), Texas A&M's Kevin Sumlin ($5,006,000) and Texas's Charlie Strong ($5,000,270) round out the top five of the list.

The SEC (Saban, Sumlin, LSU's Les Miles and South Carolina's Steve Spurrier) and Big Ten (Dantonio, Ohio State's Urban Meyer, Penn State's James Franklin and Iowa's Kirk Ferentz) both count four coaches in the top 10.

Eleven coaches are making at least $4 million this season.
