Michigan State Spartans vs. Rutgers Scarlet Knights
Rutgers travels to Spartan Stadium on Saturday to face Michigan State for the first time in more than ten years. The Spartans play at home for the first time since a 49-37 home defeat to Ohio State, a loss that dropped Michigan State to 7-2 on the season. Rutgers is coming off a 45-23 victory against Indiana last weekend. The Scarlet Knights have a 3-2 lead in the all-time series, beating the Spartans 19-14 in the two teams’ last meeting, on Sept. 4, 2004.

11/15: Michigan State 37, Maryland 15
Jeremy Langford rushed for 138 yards, his 14th-straight 100-yard game against a Big Ten opponent, and contributed two touchdowns to the Spartans’ winning effort. RJ Williamson added touchdown on a 22-yard interception return, one of three interceptions by the Michigan State defense. The defense also held Maryland to six rushing yards and sacked Terrapins quarterback C.J. Brown three times.
11/8: Ohio State 49, Michigan State 37
The loss snapped a six-game winning streak for the Spartans. Michigan State led 14-7 after the first quarter but the Buckeyes scored 21 points in the second. Connor Cook passed for 358 yards and two touchdowns, and Jeremy Langford rushed for three scores on the ground.
10/25: Michigan State 35, Michigan 11
Running back Jeremy Langford carried the ball 35 times for 177 yards and three touchdowns and quarterback Connor Cook added 227 yards and a touchdown through the air. The Spartans intercepted Michigan quarterback Devin Gardner twice and limited him to 125 passing yards.
10/18: Michigan State 56, Indiana 17
The Spartans tied a school record with their eighth straight Big Ten road win. Michigan State rushed for 330 yards, marking the first time the team rushed for over 300 yards in a Big Ten game since 2007. Running back Nick Hill had 16 carries for 178 yards, both of which were career highs.
10/11: Michigan State 45, Purdue 31
The Spartans earned their fifth win of the season in Week 7. Jeremy Langford rushed for 104 yards on 13 carries and Connor Cook finished the game 19-of-37 passing for 238 yards and three touchdowns. With the game close late at 41-38 and Purdue threatening, Darien Harris sealed the win for Michigan State with a 15-yard interception return for a score.
10/4: Michigan State 27, Nebraska 22
The Spartans averaged 45.6 points through their first five games, the highest total through five games in school history. Michigan State's defense held Nebraska to its lowest rushing total (47 yards) since 2007. Redshirt senior safety Kurtis Drummond had a season-high nine tackles.
9/27: Michigan State 56, Wyoming 14
Connor Cook threw for 126 yards and two touchdowns on 8-of-12 passing. Out of the backfield, Jeremy Langford rushed for 137 yards on 16 carries with one score. The Michigan State defense forced three turnovers, and the Spartans held possession for more than 10 minutes longer than the Cowboys.
9/20: Michigan State 73, Eastern Michigan 14
The 73 points scored by the Spartans were their third-most since 1946 and their most since hanging 76 on Northwestern in 1989. Michigan State’s seven rushing touchdowns were its most since scoring 10 TDs on the ground, a school record, also against Northwestern in 1989. Tony Lippett scored two touchdowns on three catches and Delton Williams rushed for three scores.
9/6: Oregon 46, Michigan State 27
Michigan State’s 11-game winning streak was snapped in the loss. Quarterback Connor Cook had career highs in passing yards (343), completions (29) and attempts (47). Tony Lippett had a career-high 11 receptions for 133 yards.
8/29: Michigan State 45, Jacksonville State 7
The Spartans improved to 79-36-3 all-time in season openers. Tony Lippett had the first 100-yard receiving game of his career, finishing with 167 yards and two touchdowns on four receptions. The game was just the 15th night game in the 91-year history of Spartan Stadium.
Rutgers
11/15: Rutgers 45, Indiana 23
Quarterback Gary Nova threw two touchdowns and Robert Martin added three on the ground, as Rutgers earned bowl eligibility for the ninth time in the last ten years. The Scarlet Knights broke a three-game losing streak, handing Indiana its fifth-straight loss.
11/01: Wisconsin 37, Rutgers 0
Facing the nation’s seventh ranked scoring defensive, Rutgers finished with 81 yards in the first half, running just six plays in Wisconsin’s side of the field during the course of the game. Gary Nova completed 5 of 15 passes for 46 yards, throwing one interception and no touchdowns. Robert Martin led the team with 63 yards on 13 carries.
10/25: Nebraska 42, Rutgers 24
Gary Nova exited the game on the penultimate play of the second quarter, holding his knee after being tackled. Rutgers earned 160 yards in the first half, 71 of which came on a touchdown catch by Leon Carroo. Desmon Peoples and Robert Martin added one rushing touchdown each, while the receiving corps was absent Janarion Grant and Andre Patton, both suspend for the first half for violating team rules. Rutgers lost its eighth-straight game to a top 25 team.
10/18: Ohio State 56, Rutgers 17
Gary Nova threw for 192 yards and an interception of 17-for-28 passing. Desmon Peoples rushed 15 times, gaining 83 yards and two touchdowns.
10/04: Rutgers 26, Michigan 24
Quarterback Gary Nova threw for a career-high 404 yards and completed three touchdown passes in the victory. Rutgers outgained Michigan by a 476-336 margin. Rutgers' win gave Michigan its first 0-2 Big Ten start since 1967.
09/27: Rutgers 31, Tulane 6
Rutgers produced 462 yards of total offense, including 171 yards on the ground. Desmon Peoples led the team in rushing with 83 yards on 21 carries. The Rutgers defense held Tulane to just 3-for-15 on third down with 13 first downs in the game.
09/20: Rutgers 31, Navy 24
The Rutgers defense held Navy to only 171 rushing yards while controlling possession of the ball for more than 35 minutes. Running back Justin Goodwin led the offense with 104 yards and a touchdown on 26 carries. Gary Nova completed 11 of 14 passes for 151 yards.
09/13: Penn State 13, Rutgers 10
Penn State scored 13 unanswered points in the second half to defeat Rutgers in their Big Ten debut. The Scarlet Knights committed five costly turnovers in the game. Gary Nova completed only 15 of 30 pass attempts, including five interceptions with no touchdowns.
09/06: Rutgers 38, Howard 25
Rutgers was outgained by Howard 427-397 in the game, but the Bison committed 11 penalties and two turnovers. Gary Nova completed four touchdown passes on 19 pass attempts. Paul James produced touchdown catches of 69 and 31 yards and one 7-yard touchdown run.
08/28: Rutgers 41, Washington State 38
The Scarlet Knights scored 17 points in the fourth quarter for a comeback victory. Paul James keyed the offense on the ground, gaining 173 yards on 29 carries to go along with three touchdown runs. Washington State was held to just six yards rushing.
