LOS ANGELES (AP) Cornerback Josh Shaw will play for Southern California in its rivalry showdown against UCLA, although his role hasn't been determined.

USC coach Steve Sarkisian confirms Shaw will make his season debut Saturday night at the Rose Bowl.

Shaw served a 10-game suspension for lying to the school about how he sprained both of his ankles shortly before the season began. The former team captain was reinstated earlier this week after authorities determined no criminal charges would be filed against him.

Sarkisian said he was ''fairly confident (Shaw) will have some role'' when the 24th-ranked Trojans visit the No. 11 Bruins.

Shaw could provide depth to the Trojans' defense, which has been depleted by reduced scholarships due to NCAA sanctions. Shaw also practiced on special teams this week.
