Clemson lost to Gardner-Webb on Friday after being assessed a technical foul for calling a timeout when it had no timeouts left to call. 

Gardner-Webb's Tyler Strange made a three-pointer with 6.6 seconds remaining to tie the game at 70, at which point Clemson called a timeout to set up an inbounds play.

When the Tigers had trouble getting the ball in play, senior point guard Rod Hall called a timeout, looking to avoid a five-second violation. Clemson had no timeouts remaining, though, and was called for a technical foul. 

Gardner-Webb's Jarvis Davis made both of the resulting free throws to give the Bulldogs a lead. Clemson was unable to score on the game's final possession and dropped to 1-2 on the season.
