Kent State cruises to 74-51 win over S. Illinois

KENT, Ohio (AP) Kris Brewer scored 17 points and went 3 for 3 from long range Friday night to lead Kent State to a 74-51 win over Southern Illinois in the opening round of the Men Against Breast Cancer Classic.

Kent State (3-0) opened with a 9-2 spurt fueled by Jimmy Hall to take a lead it wouldn't lose and pulled steadily away, taking a 43-28 advantage into the break and continuing to pull away in the second half, shooting 51 percent from the field and hitting 10 of 18 from beyond the arc.

Hall added 16 points, Derek Jackson had 12 and Devareaux Manley 10 as the Golden Flashes cruised to their first win over Southern Illinois (1-2) in the three meetings between the programs since 2005.

Sean O'Brien and Anthony Beane led Southern Illinois with 12 points apiece, and Jordan Caroline had 11.
