After his 88-yard run in the second quarter, Gordon passed the 2,000-yard mark on his historic season. That was his 242nd carry of the season, and it boosted the junior's career rushing total to 2,050 yards. Gordon finished the game with 200 rushing yards, bringing his career total to 2,109.
The FBS all-time single-season rushing record is 2,628 yards by Oklahoma State's Barry Sanders in 1988.
Gordon has the regular-season finale vs. Minnesota next weekend, as well as possibly the Big Ten championship game and Wisconsin's bowl game to break Sanders' record. A win over Minnesota would clinch the Big Ten West for Wisconsin.
The record was college football's third to fall on a busy Saturday. Oklahoma running back Samaje Perinebroke the FBS single-game rushing record that Gordon set last week, rushing for 427 yards in a win over Kansas. East Carolina wide receiver Justin Hardy later set the FBS career receptions record vs. Tulane.
