Hawaii holds off East Carolina 75-73

ESTERO, Fla. (AP) Garrett Nevels scored 19 points and Aaron Valdes 15, and both grabbed nine rebounds, as Hawaii held off East Carolina 75-73 on Wednesday to win the fifth-place game at the Gulf Coast Showcase.

Negus Webster-Chan added 11 points and Roderick Bobbitt 10 for the Rainbow Warriors (6-2).

Hawaii withstood a season-high 10 3-pointers by the Pirates (3-3) with a 41-29 rebounding advantage.

B.J. Tyson scored a career-high 24 points to lead ECU. Caleb White added 18 points and eight rebounds and Terry Whisnant 13 points.

Hawaii's biggest lead of 11 points came early in the second half. ECU rallied to lead with 8:18 remaining. Hawaii came back with a 14-3 run, including six points from Nevels. Five straight ECU points cut Hawaii's lead to four, 68-64, with 2:26 remaining. Neither team scored over the next minute and three free throws by Bobbitt in the final 13 seconds secured the win.
