Hartford beats Quinnipiac 54-50

HAMDEN, Conn. (AP) Nate Sikma scored 10 points and grabbed five rebounds Tuesday night to lead Hartford over Quinnipiac 54-50.

John Carroll scored nine points for Hartford (4-1) and Mark Nwakamma added eight points and grabbed seven rebounds.

Both teams shot 32.7 percent from the floor, but the Hawks hit 8 of 22 from beyond the arc while Quinnipiac (2-2) missed all 15 tries.

Zaid Hearst, averaging 22 points per game, led the Bobcats with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Ousmane Drame added 11 points and 10 rebounds and Quinnipiac won the rebound battle 46-29.

Carroll made a 3-pointer at 12:19 and Hartford led 8-6 then used a 9-2 run to pull to a 24-18 halftime lead.

The Hawks led 43-34 at 8:11 in the second half on a trey by Yolonzo Moore II and Corban Wroe iced it with a free throw with 7 seconds to play.
