UMass beats previously unbeaten Northeastern 79-54

AMHERST, Mass. (AP) Jabarie Hinds scored 14 points and had five assists to lead Massachusetts to a 79-54 victory over Northeastern in the Hall of Fame Tip Off Classic on Wednesday.

UMass (5-1) opened on a 9-2 run and never trailed. The Minutemen bounced back after having their school-record tying 10-game winning streak snapped in an 81-68 loss to Notre Dame on Nov. 22.

The Minutemen led 36-24 at halftime, and stretched the lead to twenty, 51-31, with 14:51 to play following Seth Berger's six straight points.

Derrick Gordon scored 13 points on 6-of-10 shooting and had five steals. Cady Lalanne finished with 12 points and Donte Clark added 10 for UMass, which shot 37 of 70 from the floor for 52.9 percent.

David Walker scored 14 points, T.J. Williams had 12 points and Scott Eatherton chipped in 11 for Northeastern (4-1).
