Eastern Kentucky pushes past Southern Utah 73-64

CEDAR CITY, Utah (AP) Corey Walden sank five 3-pointers and finished with a career-high 33 points, pacing Eastern Kentucky to a 73-64 victory over Southern Utah on Wednesday night.

Eastern Kentucky (4-0) was facing an eight-point deficit in the second half until a string of four straight 3-pointers, two by Timmy Knipp, pushed the Colonels into the lead. Another trey from Knipp along with Walden's three-point play and jumper made it 56-48 with 8:34 left.

Southern Utah (0-4) pulled within five, but Walden's 3-pointer along with Isaac McGlone's layup put the Colonels up by 10 with 1:56 remaining.

Walden was 10 of 17 from the field, 5 of 6 from deep and 8 of 10 on free throws. Knipp added 13 points and Eric Stutz grabbed 11 rebounds for Eastern Kentucky, which hit 10 3-pointers.

A.J. Hess scored 15 points, James McGee chipped in 14 and Tyler Rawson had 13 for the Thunderbirds.
