Northeastern tops Fairfield 57-48

BOSTON (AP) Scott Eatherton scored 18 points on 8-of-12 shooting, Zach Stahl added 14 and Northeastern beat Fairfield on Saturday 57-48 in its home opener.

T.J. Williams scored 10, David Walker had five assists, and the Huskies (5-1) held the Stags to 35.1 percent from the field.

Marcus Gilbert and K.J. Rose scored nine apiece for Fairfield (2-4) and Amadou Sidibe grabbed 11 rebounds.

Northeastern never trailed and used a 15-3 run in which Eatherton scored five points to lead 25-10. The Huskies finished with a 6-2 run to lead 33-16 at halftime.

Eatherton, named Colonial Athletic Association player of the week, averaged 19 points per game and 6.7 rebounds in Northeastern's 3-0 week, which included wins over Florida State, Navy and Manhattan.

Fairfield rallied late in the second half, using a 14-2 run in which Steve Smith hit two 3-pointers to pull within 55-48 with 53 seconds to play.
