Thornton, William & Mary beat Wofford 66-62

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (AP) Marcus Thornton scored 25 points, William & Mary shot a season-high 65.6 percent from the field and the Tribe beat Wofford 66-62 on Saturday.

Thornton made 7 of 10 field goals and 9 of 12 free throws and William & Mary (5-1) hit 21 of 32 shots as a team. Terry Tarpey scored eight points to go along with six rebounds, two steals and a career-high four blocked shots.

Sean Sheldon's layup with 7:32 left gave the Tribe a 59-46 lead, but a three-point play and a layup by Spencer Collins sparked a 13-2 run by Wofford over the next 4:37 and pulled the Terriers (5-2) within two, 61-59.

After a jumper by Omar Prewitt and a free throw by Sheldon, Eric Garcia hit a 3 and Wofford trailed 64-62 with 43 seconds left.

Karl Cochran missed a 3-pointer to tie it with 6 seconds remaining.
