The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets have offered head coach Paul Johnson a contract extension, Jeff Schultz of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports

Johnson's agent, Jack Reale, confirmed the news to Schultz.

“We’re exchanging numbers now and we’re actually in discussion for an extension,” Jack Reale, Johnson’s agent, said Monday after receiving the extension offer. “I don’t want to characterize anything further than that.”

The Yellow Jackets beat Georgia this past Saturday to finish the regular season 10-2 while winning the ACC Coastal Division.

Johnson took over the Yellow Jackets in 2008 after a successful stint at Navy and his impact was felt immediately as he installed the triple option offense. He led the team to a 9-4 record in 2008, and followed that up by winning the ACC in 2009, earning a trip to the Orange Bowl.

In his seven years at the helm, Johnson has compiled an overall 57-34 record, including a 37-19 record in ACC play.

Georgia Tech will take on the No. 3 Florida State Seminoles this Saturday in Charlotte for the ACC Championship, and could even find themselves in a major bowl game if they lose, should Florida State earn a spot in the College Football Playoff.
