Rutgers heading to Detroit for Quick Lane Bowl

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (AP) Rutgers has accepted a bid to play North Carolina in the Quick Lane Bowl in Detroit on Dec. 26.

The Scarlet Knights (7-5) will be heading to a bowl game for the fourth year in a row and for the ninth time in 10 seasons. They last faced North Carolina (6-6) in 2011 when the Tar Heels posted a 24-22 victory.

Rutgers came into its first Big Ten Conference season with the experts not expecting much. They were picked to finish last in many preseason predictions but surprised many in posting wins over Michigan, Indiana and Maryland.

North Carolina finished its season with a loss to North Carolina State, but beat Georgia Tech, Virginia and Duke during the season.
