Josh Sweat, a heralded senior prospect who attends Oscar Smith (Va.) High, committed to Florida State on Wednesday.

Sweat is the No. 1 weakside defensive end and No. 31 player in the class of 2015, according to the recruiting service Rivals.com.The 6-foot-5, 236-pounder had narrowed his options to the following five schools: Florida State, Georgia, Ohio State, Oregon and Virginia Tech.

Sweat, who missed most of his senior season because of a knee injury, is the 21st player and third defensive lineman in the class of 2015 to commit to the Seminoles. Florida State's 2015 recruiting class is ranked No. 2 in the country, behind Alabama, by Rivals.com.

Adam Friedman, the Mid-Atlantic recruiting analyst for Rivals.com, described to SI.com last month what makes Sweat one of the top defensive linemen in the country.

“His athleticism, his explosiveness, his overall strength, his progress when it comes to technique, and when you combine all that with his physical gifts -- he’s 6-foot-5, about 240 pounds -- that makes for an absolute terror [as] a defensive end,” Friedman said.

On Wednesday, Sweat laid out baseball caps bearing the logos of his five finalists, only to have his mom reveal a Florida State-themed sweatshirt.
