Louisiana Tech assistant coach Matt Moore to join Troy coaching staff

Louisiana Tech assistant coach Matt Moore will join Neal Brown on the Troy coaching staff.

Louisiana Tech's Matt Moore will join Troy coach Neal Brown's staff as co-offensive coordinator & offensive line coach per a source.

Brown and Moore coached together at Troy in 2006 when the Trojans won their first of five straight Sun Belt titles.

Moore, 42, spent the past two seasons as offensive line coach and assistant head coach for Louisiana Tech, which ranks 12th in the FBS in scoring offense in 2014.

Prior to his time at Louisiana Tech, Moore coached offensive line at Middle Tennessee State in 2012, when the Blue Raiders allowed the second-fewest sacks in the nation. He was offensive line coach at Texas Tech from 2007-2011 under Mike Leach, twice helping the Red Raiders led the FBS in passing.

Before breaking into the collegiate ranks at Troy, Moore coached high school football for a decade. That included helping Hoover (Ala.) High School win three state titles in six seasons and later being head coach at North Gwinnett (Ga.) High School.

Moore was an offensive lineman at Valdosta State when Leach was the program’s offensive coordinator.

He joins Brown in trying to revamp a Troy program that hasn’t had a winning season since 2010. The Trojans went 3-9 last season under Larry Blakeney, who announced his retirement in October.

The 34-year-old Brown was introduced as Troy’s new coach Monday. He is the second-youngest head coach in the FBS behind Western Michigan’s P.J. Fleck and was previously Kentucky’s offensive coordinator for two seasons.
