CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) Joe Chealey made four free throws in the final minute - his only points of the game - and College of Charleston held on to edge South Carolina State 50-47 on Thursday.

Chealey's two free throws with 45 seconds left gave the Cougars (4-4) a 48-44 lead and, after Karon Wright knocked down a 3-pointer for the Bulldogs (3-6) with 29 seconds left, he made two more foul shots at the 10-second mark.

Chealey also grabbed the final rebound after South Carolina State's Edward Stephens missed a 3 with 3 seconds left.

Evan Bailey led Charleston with 11 points and Anthony Stitt added 10. Stephens had 15 for S.C. State.

Charleston led 25-20 at the break but starting with a Stephens' trey, the Bulldogs scored the first eight points of the second half. The Cougars recovered to lead by eight with 2:42 to play before S.C. State's final surge.
