Providence pulls away from Stony Brook 79-61

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) LaDontae Henton scored 19 points and Kris Dunn added 15 to lead Providence to a 79-61 win over Stony Brook on Saturday.

The Friars (8-3) used defensive pressure to take control in their first-ever meeting with the Seawolves (5-5). Providence held Stony Brook to 31 percent shooting, forced 15 turnovers and made regular trips to the foul line, hitting 21 of 28 free throws.

Freshman Kyron Cartwright had a career-high 10 assists off the bench for Providence.

Carson Puriefoy had a career-high five 3-pointers and scored 25 points, one shy of his best, for Stony Brook. Jameel Warney had 14 rebounds.

Providence used a late 9-0 run to produce a 36-30 halftime lead, but the Seawolves erased that quickly and took a one-point lead early in the second half. The Friars used an 11-2 run that included six free throws, to regain the lead and steadily pulled away.
