North Florida lost to Tennessee Tech, 82-80, on Monday night after the Ospreys were assessed a technical foul for dunking during pregame warmups. NCAA rules prohibit dunking within 20 minutes of tipoff.

The game began with Tennessee Tech leading 2-0 after Torrance Rowe made a pair of free throws before the opening tip. Those two points proved to be the difference in the game, as Tennessee Tech went on to win by two.

The rule was also applied in a more high profile game last season, an NCAA tournament game between Kansas State and Kentucky, which Kentucky won 56-47. At the time, SB Nation compiled a helpful explainer about the rule.

The loss snapped a five-game winning streak for the Ospreys, who had beaten Purdue on the road in their last game.
