Gardner-Webb races past Hiwassee 91-71

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. (AP) Dylan Poston scored 17 points on 5-of-7 shooting from 3-point range to lead Gardner-Webb past Hiwassee College 91-71 on Friday night.

Tyrell Nelson added 15 points with seven rebounds and five blocks for the Bulldogs (7-5), who shot 52.4 percent from the field. Jerome Hill, Jarvis Davis and Harold McBride chipped in 11 points apiece. Hill had 10 boards and McBride had six along with seven assists.

The Tigers shot 44.1 percent, but were outrebounded 46-31 by Gardner-Webb. Joel Bailey finished with 11 points and eight assists and Brandon Carpenter contributed 10 with six rebounds. Kaseem Davidson also had 11 points for Hiwassee.

Gardner-Webb stormed away early, putting together a 34-7 run to go up 40-14 with 6:55 left in the first half. Poston made three of his five 3-pointers during the run and Nelson had an eight-point surge with a jumper, two layups and a dunk.
