Murray State tops Southern Illinois 83-71

CARBONDALE, Ill. (AP) Cameron Payne scored 22 points, Jeffery Moss added 21 and Murray State topped Southern Illinois 83-71 on Monday.

Payne was 6 of 13 from the floor and Moss was 4 of 5. They combined to make 17 of 18 free throws. Murray State (9-4) shot 56 percent, including 9 of 21 from beyond the arc, and went 24 of 30 from the line. T.J. Sapp and Justin Seymour chipped in with 10 points apiece.

Anthony Beane scored 19 points to lead Southern Illinois (7-6). Jordan Caroline had 16 points and Jalen Pendleton added 13.

The teams traded the lead in the first half but Moss' 3-pointer with 2:49 left put Murray State up 36-35 and the Racers led 44-39 at the break.

Murray State used a 9-0 run midway through the second half to extend a seven point lead out to 16 and cruised to the win.
