NORMAN, Okla. (AP) Oklahoma has fired a men's basketball support staff member for an NCAA extra-benefit violation.

The university's compliance office discovered the infraction. The school announced the discipline before the 19th-ranked Sooners hosted Weber State on Monday night. Oklahoma did not identify the staff member.

Athletic Director Joe Castiglione says the university's monitoring system ''worked as designed'' and that Oklahoma took ''corrective action we believe to be appropriate.''

Oklahoma says it has made the NCAA aware of the situation. The university says the violation appeared to be limited and that it ''has taken actions related to its findings.''

The school says any eligibility matters in the situation have been resolved and ''no additional issues in that regard are anticipated.''
