Georgia Southern defeats NAIA Truett-McConnell 90-57

STATESBORO, Ga. (AP) Trent Wiedeman scored 18 points and had nine rebounds to help Georgia Southern beat Truett-McConnell 90-57 on Monday night.

Jelani Hewitt, who came into the game as the nation's leading scorer at 24 points per game, added 15 points, including four free throws to extend his streak of made free throws to 15. He also had three of the Eagles' nine steals. Curtis Diamond scored 14 points and Kyle Doyle 12 for the Eagles.

Georgia Southern finished its nonconference schedule at 7-2, second-best in school history.

The NAIA Bears were led by Andretti Loyd with 16 points and JR Hurst with 14. The game was an exhibition for Truett-McConnell.

The Eagles scored the first 11 points and led the entire game. They had a 41-20 lead at the break after the Bears failed to score over the last 3:15 of the half.
