In Ludwig's two seasons in Madison, the Badgers ranked third in the Big Ten in total offense. In 2013, Wisconsin's average of 480.8 yards per game was a school record.

Ludwig will replace Karl Dorrell, who was fired after Vanderbilt ranked 125th in total offense this season, averaging only 288.3 yards and 17.2 points per game. The Commodores finished 3-9 and did not win a game in the SEC this season.
