Mississippi State junior quarterback Dak Prescott will return for his senior season instead of entering the NFL draft, ESPN reported on Wednesday.

According to ESPN broadcaster Brent Musburger, Prescott told him that he planned on returning to the Bulldogs in 2015 and it was announced during the Orange Bowl telecast on Wednesday.

Prescott told Sports Illustrated in October that if he’s projected as a first-round pick in the NFL Draft that he would leave school.

“One of the worst things is not going, getting injured and hurting your situation,” Prescott said. “I wouldn’t risk it if I had a chance to go first round. I’m graduating college, and my time here will be done, I’ll do exactly what I wanted to do."

College Football Playoff Picks

Led by Prescott this year, Mississippi State ascended to the No. 1 ranking for the first time in school history after victories over top 10 opponents, LSU, Texas A&M and Auburn.

Prescott emerged as a Heisman Trophy candidate until the Bulldogs' first loss, a 25-20 setback to Alabama on Nov. 15.

Prescott completed 61 percent of his passes this season for 3,449 yards, 27 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. He also ran for 986 yards and 14 touchdowns, while leading the Bulldogs to a 10-3 record. He passed for a season-high 453 yards with three touchdowns and one interception in the 49-34 Orange Bowl loss to Georgia Tech.
