Northeastern beat Delaware 72-53 in CAA opener

NEWARK, Del. (AP) Scott Eatherton scored 15 points and preseason favorite Northeastern opened Colonial Athletic Association play with a 72-53 victory over Delaware on Saturday.

T.J. Williams added 12 points and David Walker 10 for the Huskies (9-4, 1-0).

Caleb Donnelly hit a pair of 3-pointers to start Northeastern on a 17-2 run in the second for a 22-point lead with 9:16 left. The Huskies took their largest lead of 25 points with 6:42 left after a Walker dunk and Williams' 3-pointer.

The Blue Hens (1-11, 0-1), coming off their first victory after opening with 10 losses, shot only 31.7 percent to 49.1 for the Huskies, who also made 8 of 18 3-pointers and had a 44-30 rebounding edge.

Northeastern broke a four-game losing streak to Delaware as coach Bill Coen reached 131 victories to tie Karl Fogel for third-most at Northeastern.

Maurice Jeffers had 11 points and Kyle Anderson 10 for Delaware.
